FOR IMMEDIATE DISSEMINATION

PRESS RELEASE

April 30, 2013 Dave Crawford USAF Marathon Amateur Radio Coordinator

Starting 1 May 2013 you can register to volunteer for the 2013 USAF Marathon at the USAF Marathon web site.  This year the marathon will be on September 21, 2013.  If you will be in the Dayton Ohio area and are able to help this year please contact David A. Crawford, KF4KWW  kf4kww@sbcglobal.net the USAF Marathon Amateur Radio Coordinator for instructions to navigate to the Marathon Web site.

This amateur radio event requires approximately 60 operators to ensure complete coverage to provide communications for runner location, logistics, and emergencies from the Hydration Stations to the Race Officials. This world class event is high profile happening for amateur radio.

This event can be an all day event for most operators so be prepared for a long but enjoyable and pleasurable event.  There are some locations that are not all day but they fill up quickly. You will get to meet and work with some great people and watch a world class event up close. In previous years operators have commented “this event is the most fun”!

We have a training session scheduled for 14 September 2013 at the Beavercreek Township Fire Station Number 61 located at 2195 Dayton Xenia road Beavercreek Ohio near Alpha Ohio.  The training will start at 6:00PM.  We plan to have guest speakers from the USAF Marathon staff, discuss the frequency and operations plans, open microphone start procedures, general information, and we’ll be passing out the goody bags.

The race officials greatly appreciate your professionalism and rely heavily on our skills as communicators.  For questions please e-mail Dave Crawford at kf4kww(@)sbcglobal.net or my cell (937) 689-6894.

Please let me know via Email when you have accomplished this so I can track the process better!!
