November 1,  2013 Membership Meeting

This month’s Friday night presentation will be on transmatches (Tuners). It will be presented by Paul Hrivnak of Palstar. Paul’s presentation will cover modern matching networks, their history and development, including his modern automatic tuners. Paul Hrivnak of Palstar has been an amateur operator since 1956, first as VE3UP in Canada and now as N8PH. In 1965, he graduated from the University of Windsor, Ontario and received a BASEE. He started working at the pilot plant for Ford Motor Company in Detroit, but was quickly self-employed starting Viewstar making set top TV converters for Phillips and Magnavox. Of the 20 engineers that worked for Viewstar, 12 were amateurs. They also developed amplifiers and tuners, PT1000, 2000 & 2500. Eventually the amateur division of Viewstar was spun off as what we now know as Vectronics. He brought Vectronics to the US and sold it to Valor in Piqua, OH in 1994/95. Within 1 year, Valor sold Vectronics to MFJ. In 1996, he formed a new company call Palstar. Between Viewstar, Vectronics and Palstar, he has sold 30,000 transmatches. He also is involved in selling homeland security proprietary matching network
