R Scott Wright is K0MD and our April 2024 DARA Guest speaker. Scott has been a ham for 47 years and is an avid DXer and Contester. He has operated contests from China, Chile, the Caribbean and Uruguay. He has built a so2r high power contest station in Rochester Minnesota. He is the past Editor of the National Contest Journal (NCJ) and was a 2022 recipient of the CQ Ham Radio Hall of Fame for his work on treatments for COVID-19 and his work on DXing and Contesting. He is an active member of the Minnesota Wireless Association, the Twin Cities DX Club, the SWODX, the Chiltern DX Club and founded the Rochester DX and Contest Club. Scott is an honorary member of the the Beijing Radio Sport club (B1Z), the Turks and Caicos Amateur Radio Association and the Radio Club de Chile. He has led multiple teams of contesters to Turks and Caicos for the ARRL DX CW, ARRL DX SSB and the CQ WW SSB contests. He did the 2007 CQ CW WPX contest from Beijing with B1Z. Scott started ham radio at age 12 in Southeastern KY and was part of the Lake Cumberland Amateur Radio Association. His original callsign was WD4HAD. He has held the following callsigns: KF0FW, AA0PS, Wk4W. He is currently licensed as K0MD and is the trustee for NT0EE. While not from SW Ohio now, Scott was born up I-75 from Dayton in Sidney, OH and lived there until age 8. He remembers visiting WPAFB as a first grader and really enjoys visiting SW Ohio every May for Hamvention. Scott works at the Mayo Clinic as a cardiologist and Professor of Medicine. He has led a busy research and clinical practice effort during his 27 years at Mayo. Most recently, he co-led one of the world’s largest studies on new therapies for COVID-19 leading to FDA approval of convalescent plasma and has been a global leader in a new cholesterol medicine LeqVio a twice yearly injectable agent which treats high cholesterol. He will speak to our club about operating a portable station from Chili.
